Does bringing food to a Master Gardener association meeting qualify as volunteer hours?
A. Like during Master Gardener class, you can receive one volunteer hour for bringing food to a Master Gardener (MG) association meeting. You do not count the actual time spent preparing the food. An exception to the latter might be preparation for a MG association special event.
Can I get volunteer hours at a Master Gardener association meeting?
A. Attending a Master Gardener (MG) association meeting does not qualify for volunteer hours. However, if an educational presentation is given at the meeting, one advanced training hour can be counted (MG association tours may count as more than one advanced training hour depending on the length). Volunteer hours can be counted at a MG association meeting if you are serving the MG association in some capacity during that time. In that case, you could count volunteer hours and training hours at a MG association meeting. However, you cannot claim training hours and volunteer hours for the same time period.
Can I earn volunteer hours when I am helping a garden club, plant association, or other organization?
A. If the activity qualifies as Master Gardener (MG) volunteer hours, you can count the activity if you are recognized as a MG in the activity. The easiest way to do this is to wear your MG name badge.
